Kia might not be the first brand that comes to mind when discussing recreational vehicles, but that perception could shift if its latest concepts reach the production stage. In contrast to its South Korean counterpart Hyundai, Kia has taken a more subdued approach to sustainable transportation. However, the PV5 WKNDR and the EV9 ADVNTR are poised to make a significant impact on the market.
We say this positively, as these two vehicles were unveiled at the 2024 SEMA Show. The futuristic overlanding models come from Kia Design Center America (KDCA). This annual event attracts enthusiasts with a keen interest in rugged, off-road-capable platforms, leading to a marked increase in the creation of durable motorhomes and camper trailers.
Interestingly, many of the companies stepping into this space are relatively new to the RV industry. That said, well-established brands are also eager to meet the growing demands of their customers. Let’s begin with the EV9 ADVNTR—a three-row SUV designed to showcase its adventure-oriented capabilities. Kia has elevated this model with a 3-inch lift compared to its standard version.
It features a bespoke roof rack suitable for carrying gear or rooftop tents. Together with the PV5 WKNDR, these all-electric designs emphasize the manufacturer’s dedication to environmentally friendly technologies. The second vehicle in this duo is a modular van, which the press release refers to as “a Swiss Army Knife on wheels.” This model comes equipped with off-road tires and a lift kit to handle various outdoor challenges.
The PV5 WKNDR boasts solar panels on its roof and wheels featuring hydroturbine technology. These innovations enable the concept van to recharge its batteries, making it suitable for extended stays off the grid. Additionally, the interior offers ample storage solutions and a customizable layout, allowing owners to adapt the living area to their specific needs.
