Bentley Motors presents the third custom-built Bentley of the contemporary era: the sleek Batur Convertible. The luxurious two-seater grand tourer was crafted by Mulliner, Bentley’s internal bespoke division and the oldest coachbuilder globally. Following the exquisitely handcrafted Bacalar barchetta and Batur coupe, the Batur convertible is limited to just 18 units, each offering innovative hues and materials never seen before on a production Bentley.
The Batur Convertible pushes forward the innovative design essence introduced by the Batur coupe — alterations that will steer the future styling of Bentley vehicles. Retaining the most robust version of Bentley’s renowned W12, featuring a 750 PS, hand-built 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged engine that has been the driving force of Bentley’s success for the past two decades. The Batur Convertible is set to be one of the final Bentleys to utilize this powertrain.
Customized Two-Seat Grand Tourer
Bentley boasts a lavish heritage of open-cockpit vehicles, stretching from the very first Bentley in 1919, through the company’s foundational years in the 1920s, to the recent Bacalar. The structure of the Batur Convertible enabled Mulliner’s designers to fuse the design of the Bacalar and Batur, while elevating it as a convertible.
The designers opted to accentuate the two-seater essence with a “wraparound’ cockpit. The striking “airbridge’ behind the seats and tapered cowls at the rear nod to the barchetta sports cars of yesteryears, while emphasizing the promise of a dynamic, driver-centric expedition in a sheltered setting. The airbridge and tapered cowls also provide a partially enclosed luggage compartment behind the two front seats. The convertible roof serves as a modern alternative to a hardtop. Crafted from a mix of insulation material, sealing system enhancements, and acoustic treatments, it can be deployed or stowed in just 19 seconds, even while the car travels up to 30 mph.
Distinct Commissions
Purchasers can specify the color and finish of almost every surface of the Batur Convertible. The paint choices are endless, starting from the complete Mulliner color spectrum and expanding into entirely bespoke paint and hand-painted graphics. Exterior brightware can feature a combination of light and dark, satin or gloss, or even titanium. Another subtle option available is a graduated contrast color for the front grille, creating an ombre effect. Within the cabin, the exclusive choice of 3D printed rose gold covers key driver touchpoints, such as the Bentley Drive Mode Selector, encircling the start/stop button and used to swap chassis modes. Rose gold can also adorn Bentley’s iconic Organ Stop vent controls on the dashboard, along with a rose gold insert marker on the steering wheel. These special components will be fashioned by skilled goldsmiths from the historic Jewellery Quarter of Birmingham, England.
Outstanding Engine Performance
This peak grand tourer showcases Bentley’s W12 powertrain delivering 750 PS and 1,000 Nm of torque — thanks to a revamped intake system, upgraded turbochargers, new intercoolers, and recalibration. Over two decades in the making, the 6.0-liter, twin-turbocharged engine now churns out almost 40% more power while enhancing fuel efficiency by 25%.
The W12 is mated with Bentley’s eight-speed double-clutch transmission and a sports exhaust for a soundscape befitting the level of performance. The entire exhaust system is titanium-made, with finishers 3D-printed in titanium.
The model showcased is Bentley’s engineering development vehicle – Batur Convertible Car #0 – boasting exterior paintwork in a custom color: vivid Vermillion Gloss over Vermillion Satin Duo. The bodywork is accentuated by high gloss carbon fiber front splitters, side skirts, and rear diffuser.
Each of the 16 Batur Convertibles will be meticulously crafted over several months in Mulliner’s workshop at Bentley’s carbon-neutral facility in Crewe, England.
