A short while ago, we showcased one of the items up for bidding at the upcoming RM Sotheby’s Monterey Car Week auction. The vehicle in focus was a 1964 Shelby 289 Cobra named the “Snake Charmer.” Also following shortly after is the Pebble Beach Auctions. Concurrently, Gooding & Company provides a preview of a vehicle set to be auctioned – a 1970 Lamborghini Miura P400 S.
According to official documents, the Italian manufacturer produced a total of 764 units of this sports car within a seven-year timeframe. Passionate collectors would readily invest substantial amounts to include such models in their collection. This particular 1970 Miura P400 S holds strong appeal, owing to its condition and the backstory associated with its procurement.
The entity overseeing its sale informs us that the car was originally purchased in Italy before it was later transported to the United States in the ’80s. Interestingly, following a brief period of use, the then-owner opted to transform it into a distinctive centerpiece in their living space.
Gooding & Company affirms that it has not been publicly displayed ever since. As for its state, an evaluation highlights minor blemishes likely attributed to regular wear. The 1970 Miura P400 S currently on sale has not undergone any overhaul but underwent repainting just over four decades ago.
The two-seater is equipped with Campagnolo wheels still wrapped in Pirelli tires from the era of its manufacture. The future owner will have several tasks to address in order to enhance its visual appeal. Nonetheless, the 1970 Miura P400 S presents itself impressively in its current state. Gooding & Company anticipates that bids could ascend to $2.5 million for chassis number 4614 coupled with engine number 30531.
