The village of Obergurgl, nestled in the stunning Ötztal Alps, is a serene destination surrounded by 21 snow-covered peaks reaching three thousand meters. It is a paradise for skiing enthusiasts, with guaranteed snow from mid-November to the end of April, meticulously maintained slopes spanning 112 kilometers, and state-of-the-art ski lifts. Obergurgl, known as the “Diamond of the Alps,” is not only a skiing mecca but also a picturesque traditional Austrian mountain village offering a plethora of activities for luxury holidays throughout the year.
Hotel The Edelweiss & Gurgl, the oldest hotel in Obergurgl, boasts an illustrious history and recently underwent a comprehensive renovation in winter 2020. The rooms and suites have been tastefully modernized, now exuding a fresh alpine ambiance and coziness. During our stay, we experienced the spaciousness of the Edelweiss Suite, which comfortably accommodated our family of four. The suite featured sliding doors separating the living and bedroom areas, and the furnishings were of exceptional quality. Additionally, the dual balconies provided breathtaking panoramic views of the snow-capped peaks.
The hotel delighted us with thoughtful little touches, such as welcome chocolates and complimentary bottled water upon arrival. The plush robes, slippers, and luxurious toiletries added to the overall comfort of our stay.
Within the premises, guests have the option of dining at two restaurants: the acclaimed À La Carte Restaurant and the glass-domed Fondue room. The À La Carte restaurant offers a seasonally inspired menu comprising fresh ingredients, many locally sourced. The elegant setting and attentive staff created a memorable dining experience. Each night, the four-course menu featured a delightful selection of mouthwatering dishes.
The hotel’s luxurious Glacier Spa, complete with a spa and beauty area, provided a haven of relaxation. The adults-only section included saunas, a steam room, and a whirlpool. The spa also offered a range of therapeutic treatments using the nourishing Kurland product line.
For recreation, the hotel featured two heated pools, one indoors and one outdoors. Our children particularly enjoyed swimming outside while basking in the stunning mountain vistas. The newly constructed E&G gym boasted state-of-the-art cardio and strength training equipment, making it an excellent spot for workouts. Furthermore, the well-equipped Edelweiss Kids’ Club offered entertainment for children, including a magic show organized by the hotel.
All in all, our stay at Hotel The Edelweiss & Gurgl was a delightful experience. The renovated rooms, exceptional dining options, and luxurious spa facilities made it an ideal choice for a luxury mountain getaway.
