Moving forward with a transformation of its SUV range in recent times, Mazda has officially unveiled the highly anticipated CX-70 in the North American market. Displaying graceful yet athletic design elements, the sophisticated two-row midsize crossover is truly attention-grabbing. All CX-70 powertrains incorporate electrification in some manner; there exist two variations of the 3.3-liter inline-six and a 2.5-liter plug-in hybrid. Teamed with an all-wheel-drive system, they deliver exceptional driving performance whether traversing the countryside or navigating city streets.
Here’s a comprehensive overview of the 2025 model-year vehicle.
Graceful yet athletic design elements
Positioned between the compact CX-50 and CX-90 SUV, which made their debut</u last year and share the same wheelbase despite the absence of the third row, the CX-70’s expansive and low front fascia, sculpted front end and contrasting black accents confer it a vibrant presence. Drawing inspiration from the 100th Anniversary Special Edition MX-5, the sculpted interior exudes a contemporary and sophisticated ambience, while a darker-hued color scheme, premium materials, and finishes, such as contrast grey metallic inlays and red Nappa leather with red stitch detailing, lean towards a more masculine appeal. Black metal and machine cut finished 21-inch wheels further enhance the vehicle’s assertive stance, even when at rest.
Performance, form, and function
Mazda’s most advanced powertrains take center stage in the CX-70, offering nimble and electrified performance along with exceptional driving dynamics. Customers have the option between innovative powertrains: the e-SkyActiv G 3.3L Inline Six Turbo engine with M-Hybrid Boost or the e-SkyActiv G PHEV. At this time, fuel economy figures were not available, but for comparison, the CX-90 boasts an all-electric range of 26 miles in urban settings.
New features aimed at enhancing functionality include remote-folding rear seats for effortless loading, be it luggage or sports equipment like bikes and skis, as well as a thoughtfully designed expansive rear cargo area furnished with additional compartments and hooks for improved storage. Additionally, a distinctive sub-trunk design will allow owners to discretely stow valuables and small items away from sight.
New driver assistance and safety technologies
Mazda’s unwavering commitment to vehicle safety has consistently earned it high-tier Top Safety Pick+ accolades from the esteemed Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). The CX-70 introduces several new assistance technologies to reduce driver distraction, enhance safety, and convenience.
In addition to Cruising and Traffic Support, Unresponsive Driver Support is an emergency-only system capable of automatically decelerating and halting the vehicle upon detecting an unresponsive driver. Another newly introduced feature is the integration of Amazon Alexa. As the first Mazda crossover to integrate this technology, drivers can issue hands-free commands for functions such as adjusting radio stations or controlling smart home devices.
With its utilization of premium materials, exquisite craftsmanship, and advanced technologies, the 2025 Mazda CX-70 seems poised to be one of the most luxurious vehicles in its category and a commendable addition to Mazda’s lineup.
