Upon first sight of the outer facade, you might never realize Grato is the location of a James Beard Award Nominee. The “local spot” in West Palm Beach is the concept of Chef Clay Conley whose philosophy is straightforward: providing simple, delightful cuisine.
Although many chefs nowadays incorporate additional components to enhance their creativity, Chef Clay’s creations stand out due to their simplicity. This doesn’t imply you won’t encounter some innovative discoveries on the menu here.
Available every day for dinner and Sunday brunch, Grato (meaning “thankful” in Italian) showcases a reasonably priced menu comprising of small and large dishes, pizzas, and pastas served in full and half portions. We, personally, are very appreciative that this traditional Italian eatery with a relaxed atmosphere is commemorating its eighth year of business at this favored location.
Keep in touch with the lively bar and order one of their artisanal cocktails like the Zesty Flamingo Margarita or select a classic such as a gin martini or a glass of wine from their remarkable collection.
Make sure to sample their meatball appetizer. Three meatballs in a zesty tomato sauce are presented in a cast iron dish atop velvety polenta. Remember to reserve a few bites of their warm, homemade bread to mop up every last bit of sauce.
Other highlights on their Petite Dishes offerings consist of octopus taboulleh intensified with the inclusion of cucumber, mint, and preserved lemon yogurt.
Their 12-inch woodfired pizzas are a beloved staple in the area.
Delectable choices include the in-demand Diavola topped with smoky mozzarella, pepperoni, peppers, onions, and spicy honey; the simply made Margherita with fresh mozzarella and basil; and a luxurious Local Mushroom with black truffle, fontina cheese, and grilled scallions.
They even offer a Detroit-style pan pizza alongside a black truffle pie adorned with Gruyere and chives.
Their distinct orecchiette is packed with Florida rock shrimp and elevated with fennel and roasted cherry tomatoes in a white wine sauce. The ultimate indulging experience is the chicken parm, a generous serving of succulent chicken lightly fried accompanied by a portion of fresh spaghetti.
The desserts here are all handmade and encompass everything from gelato and sorbet to cookies and cream cheesecake. Pair it with an espresso martini for an unforgettable dining experience.
Grato is situated at 1901 South Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach, Florida.
